The Andhra Pradesh State Dental Council was established under the provisions of the Dentist Act, 1948. As Andhra Pradesh was formed as a separate state in 1956, the Andhra Pradesh state gazetted its regulations on 26th Nov 1957 (Vide. G.O. Ps. No. 2357) under the seal of governor, signed by L. N. Gupta – Secretary to Govt. of India.
The State Dental Council maintains register for dentists, hygienists and dental mechanics. It is empowered to regulate the profession of dentistry in the State and also address grievances by the public and the professionals. The Council frames regulations and guidelines time to time to keep up the highest standards of dentistry and dental services to the public. The Council also guides, suggests and recommends the state government in forming new policies and regulations pertaining to dentistry and dental establishments. It also suggests the ideal dentist-patient ratio to provide the best possible dentistry in the state.
